REG was established and listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market in May 2005. The Group's main business is the development, construction, financing and operation of onshore wind farms in the UK. It also generates power from recycled used cooking oil.

The company operates through two main subsidiaries. REG Windpower is based in Bath and Truro. The company operates 14 wind projects in Cornwall, County Durham, Cumbria, Cambridgeshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Gwynedd, with a total capacity of 67.15MW. REG Bio-Power generates renewable electricity from recovered used cooking oil (UCO). The company operates through two UK subsidiaries, Living Fuels and Living Power.
