France to launch third offshore wind energy tender

French Ecology Minister, Segolene Royal, has announced that France has plans to launch a third offshore wind energy tender process.

The tender process will be launched to develop energy wind farms off the coast of Dunkirk, northern France. It would include a competitive dialogue with interested parties to fine tune bidding requirements and to give them the opportunity to improve their bids during the tender process.

This tender process is part of France's green growth goal of generating 40% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2030.

The government of France awarded a first offshore wind tender for 2,000 MW of capacity in 2012. The projects awarded at that time represented a total investment of €7 billion (US$8 billion). The second tender was awarded in 2014 involving 1000 MW and €4 billion (US$4.55 billion).
