Enel Green Power has announced plans to build new solar photovoltaic plants and wind farms with a total installed capacity of more than 320 MW in Spain. This will require an investment of EUR280 million (US$329.3 million).

As part of its plan to double its renewable capacity in the Andalusia and Extremadura regions in 2019, Enel Green Power España (EGPE) will construct two wind farms with a total 64 MW generation capacity and install six new solar parks totalling 260 MW.

EGPE's current installed capacity in these regions is 350 MW. The company won the rights to develop these projects in a series of renewable energy tenders conducted by entities of the central Spanish government - the country's second wind energy tender and third solar energy tender.

In addition, in support of Spain's goal of 20% renewable energy share by 2020, as mandated by the European Union, EGPE plans to develop renewable energy projects involving the installation of a total 879 MW capacity, of which 540 MW will be generated by wind power and 339 MW by solar.

This includes seven new renewable power plants in Extremadura and Murcia, to be developed at a total cost of EUR800 million (US$940.8 million). Once operational, these new plants will generate about 1750 GWh every year.

EGPE has already expanded its wind portfolio considerably this year, with the acquisition of Parques Eolicos Gestinver, owner of five wind farms in Galicia and Catalonia with a total 132 MW capacity. Enel acquired the company from Elawan Energy and Genera Avante, both based in Spain, for a total consideration of EUR178million (then US$218.02 million).
