The Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed to issue a loan with sovereign guarantee for US$200 million  to Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for the development of a 100 MW wind project on Mannar Island, Sri Lanka.

The wind farm, which is expected to be completed near the end of 2021, entails the development of a 100 MW wind farms, its associated infrastructure including internal cabling and access roads, energy dispatch control center, as well as reactors for managing voltage levels.

The total project investment is estimated at US$257 million.

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will define cost benchmarks and prepare tender documents for launching a competitive bidding process for the wind project .

ADB principal energy specialist Mukhtor Khamudkhanov said:

“The new Wind Power Generation Project will not only provide access to a clean and reliable power supply in Sri Lanka, but also create an environment for further wind power development through future public-private partnerships."

In early August we reported that Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB),  issued a Request for Proposals (RfP) for the construction of  a 10-MW solar project in Batticaloa district. The 10-MW Vavunathivu Solar PV Power Project will be developed on Build Own & Operate (BOO) basis and will deliver power to CEB under a 20-year PPA. It will be connected to a grid substation near Vavunathivu, a town in Batticaloa District.
