The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), which is responsible for operating the electricity market and directing the operation of the bulk electrical system in the province of Ontario (Canada), has launched a request for qualification for a mega renewables program.

The Large Renewable Procurement (LRP) II process kicked off July 29, 2016 with the launch of the LRP II request for qualifications (RFQ). The LRP is a competitive process for procuring large renewable energy projects generally larger than 500 kilowatts.

The current LRP II procurement targets include up to 600 MW of wind, 250 MW of solar, 50 MW of waterpower, 30 MW of bioenergy. In addition, 50 MW will be procured which may include a focus toward technological upgrades to and optimizations of existing renewable energy facilities.

The LRP I process concluded in April 2016, with the execution of 454.885 MW of new wind, solar, and waterpower contracts.

The Qualification Submission period begins July 29, 2016, and the qualification submission deadline is September 8, 2016.
