RP Global inaugurates second Croatian wind farm, becoming Croatia’s largest wind energy investor

Investor and developer RP Global is celebrating the commissioning of its 34.2 MW wind park, Rudine. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent members of the wind industry (GE) and banking sector (IFC, Mirova), as well as the local government, among others.

Through the wind parks Danilo and Rudine, renewable energy company RP Global has invested a total of €123 Million in the Croatian market. This effectively makes RP Global the largest wind power investor in Croatia, with a market share of about 20%. Both wind parks are operated by the company itself.

Situated in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the wind farm Rudine lies at a distance of 50km from Dubrovnik, near the village of Slano. Construction started in August 2014 and was completed in 2015, with commercial operation starting in early 2016. The IFC and Unicredit helped make the project happen, by jointly providing €42.5 Million of the €53 Million total investment cost. The twelve 2.85 MW turbines were provided by GE.

Bojan Rescec, Country Manager of RP Global Croatia, says:

“The result of yet another fruitful cooperation with the IFC and Unicredit, Rudine will further push Croatia’s renewable energy agenda and serve the Croatian population by contributing towards the reduction of pollution and dependence on energy."

Though Rudine was the last project in Croatia’s wind ‘quota’, RP Global has plans for further projects in the country, also involving other renewable technologies, like small hydropower and photovoltaic. However, it remains to be seen whether any new projects will be completed in the near future. This is due to the lack of legal framework, and the arrival of the new government, which has yet to give clear incentives for investors and developers.
