Company description

BlackRock, Inc. is a U.S.-headquartered multinational investment management corporation based in New York City. Founded in 1988, initially as risk management and fixed income institutional asset manager, BlackRock became the world's largest asset manager as of 2010 after numerous acquisitions including Merrill, Quellos, State Street, and Barclays Global. As of 2014, BlackRock has US$4.401 trillion in assets under management.

BlackRock is independently managed, with no single majority stockholder. The PNC Financial Services Group has a minority ownership stake in BlackRock with the remainder of stock owned by institutional and individual investors, including BlackRock employees.
