Description

Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, and is estimated to possess 40% of the world’s geothermal reserves. However, only an estimated 4% of Indonesia’s geothermal capacity potential is being tapped. On the other hand, demand for electricity in Indonesia is increasing at a rate of 7% per year.

This note serves as an update on recent legal developments in the Indonesian geothermal market as it enters its next phase of development under the 2014 Geothermal Law - Law No 21/2014.
