11 bidders for Oman power plants

The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) has received 11 statements of qualifications from international firms and consortia to develop two new Independent Power Projects (IPPs).

The two sites and the choice of technologies to be used for the projects will be determined by the bidders. The companies that have bid are the following:

The projects will add new power capacity of approximately 2600 MW to the Main Interconnected System (MIS) of Oman. The projects are most likely to be located across two sites in the northern half of the Sultanate. The two IPPs together represent the single largest procurement planned to date in the Sultanate’s history.

The project involves the development, finance, design, engineer, construct, own, operate and maintain of the assets.

On 18 June 2014 we reported that OPWP had issued a tender process through the launch of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) to develop the two IPPs.
