8minutenergy appoints Pablo Otin as Vice President of Business Development, Latin America

8minutenergy Renewables, LLC, the U.S.-based solar developer, has announced that the company has appointed Pablo Otin as Vice President of Business Development, Latin America.

Otin’s professional background includes developing more than 2 GW (gigawatts) of renewable projects in Europe and the United States and pioneering the development of solar PV projects in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Panama.

Otin joins 8minutenergy after serving as Country Manager for Gestamp Solar in North America and as advisor for several renewables institutions.

8minutenergy Chief Executive Officer Martin Hermann, said:

“8minutenergy has established itself as the leading independent solar provider in the U.S. with 1,400 MW (megawatts) of contracted projects, and Latin America is a logical next market we are expanding into internationally. Pablo has a proven track record of success, entrepreneurial experience and is a very seasoned player in the renewable industry. We’re looking forward to his contributions to our team.”

In his prior role, Otin was responsible for all of Gestamp Solar’s U.S. operations, which included managing 11 operational projects, securing PPA contracts for an additional 150 MW and developing a more than 1 GW solar pipeline. Otin also previously held senior roles at Allco Finance Group, where he helped set up one of the first solar investment funds in Europe, and BP Alternative Energy and Gamesa Energia where he was involved in wind power projects. Otin has led more than 1 GW of merger and acquisition solar transactions in the U.S. and Mexico.

Tom Buttgenbach, President of 8minutenergy, said:

“Pablo is an international expert in bringing large-scale solar projects to market, and we’re excited to have him on the 8minutenergy team as we expand into Latin America and Mexico. We plan to develop over 2,000 MW of solar PV projects in Latin America over the next five years, and Pablo will play a key role in leading that effort.”

Otin holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Central Lancashire (UK) and University of Zaragoza (Spain) and an Executive MBA from IEB (Madrid, Spain).
