Bid submitted for Hamilton Biosolids project

The Hamilton Water Division within the Public Works Department at the City of Hamilton (Canada) has announced that bids for the Hamilton Biosolids PPP Project have been submitted.

The Hamilton Water Division intends to select a private partner for the design, build, financing, operation, and maintenance of a new 60,0000 wet tonne per year biosolids processing facility at its Woodward Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The new facility will treat biosolids processed by the City’s wastewater treatment system into a more safe and stable product capable of being marketed as a fertiliser or used to generate energy. This innovative approach will assure the city a long-term, sustainable biosolids management program and provide opportunities to explore more innovative technologies.

According to sources, the Harbour City Solutions consortium, comprised of Bird Capital, Maple Reinders PPP, Operis and Synagro Technologies, submitted a proposal for the project.

In December 2013, the Canadian government announced a CAD22.9 million (US$21.6 million) non-repayable P3 Canada Fund contribution towards the project.
