Bidders announced for Oman IPP project

Statement of Qualifications (SOQs) were received from 11 applicants in response to the tender for the development of an additional new generation capacity of approximately 850-750MW to be located at Misfah, just over 30km from Muscat International Airport in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) launched the request for qualification (RfQ) for the development of the new independent power project in October last year.

The scope of the project includes financing, procurement, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the IPP facility.

The following is a list of applicants, submitted a SOQ in response to the RFQ:

  • Alfanar Consortium
  • EDF International
  • Enel SPA
  • General Electric
  • International Power SA
  • Korea Electric Power Corporation
  • MAPNA Consortium
  • Marubeni Corporation
  • Mitsui Consortium
  • RWE Generation SE
  • Sojitz Corporation

As we reported in early November, the Independent Power Project is to be developed as private sector project by appropriately qualified developers. The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (the OPWP), a member of Nama Group, was responsible for procuring new capacity for power and water and for purchasing and selling the output in the Sultanate of Oman.
