Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) will tender a whole new network of transmission projects in September. The transmission facilities are expected to enter into commercial operation within 48 to 60 months from the signing of the concession contracts, scheduled for 25 November 2016.
The tender will comprise of approximately 6,600 kilometers of transmission lines and 6,750 MW capacity in substations.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has decided to structure the development of the project in two stages after studying the public hearing contributions for the project.
ANEEL will auction 22 lots of projects located in the following states: Bahia, Ceara, Goias, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte, with expected investments of BRL11.8 billion (US$3.6 billion). The wining bidders will run the projects under 30-year agreements.
