CWP and Nestle reach financial milestone for Sanquhar Community Wind Farm

CWP and Nestle reach financial milestone for Sanquhar Community Wind Farm in Scotland (UK). The scheme will generate up to 30 MW of clean, green and locally sourced energy.

KfW IPEX Bank financed the project; its second CWP investment. The 9 turbine project is contracted to supply Nestle UK with approximately 125GWh of clean green power per annum in support of its ambition to source 100% of electricity from Renewables.

Vestas are supplying their new V112 3.45 MW turbines which are due for commissioning in 2017.  The steel towers are being sourced directly from CS Wind’s newly acquired Campbeltown factory under CWP’s “Buy Scottish” Initiative.  CWP has a tradition of sourcing from Scotland’s extensive manufacturing and civil and electrical contracting Industries, with Scottish towers delivered to 3 of CWP’s existing wind farms.

Rod Wood, Managing Director, Community Windpower, said:

Community Windpower are delighted to be working with Nestle UK, KfW, Vestas Celtic, CS Wind and all the many other Scottish companies, to fulfil the construction and operation of the Sanquhar project. We have always maintained our commitment to support the Scottish economy and securing jobs and employment for Scottish people and this is another of our projects which has delivered on its promises”.

Thomas Brehler, Global Head of Power, Renewables & Water at KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH, said:

“I am very happy that Community Windpower have again chosen our bank, and the London Energy Team, to support them in their development of renewable energy in Scotland. We are very proud to be the lender of choice for this magnificent project with first class counterparties and manufacturers and hope there will be further projects to emulate with equally positive environmental effects”

Andrew Griffiths, Head of Environmental Sustainability, Nestlé UK & Ireland said:

This investment represents a milestone moment, in meeting Nestlé’s commitment to environmental stewardship and in the application of renewable energy technologies across all our UK operations. From our factory in Girvan and our supply chains in Ayrshire we are proud of our role in the Scottish economy and we are pleased to be building on that through our partnership with CWP.”

Lesley Black, UK Sales & Marketing Manager of CS Wind UK said:

Community Wind Power have again actively demonstrated their commitment to using the UK supply chain wherever possible. A major employer in a rural area, the CS wind UK factory supports over 160 local jobs and contributes over 7Million pounds per year in wages to the UK economy. The support and commitment from Community Windpower to source in Scotland helps to ensure that the benefits and opportunities from renewable energy projects are also felt in the UK manufacturing and supply chain industries”.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, President, Vestas Northern Europe, said:

Vestas is delighted that Community Windpower has chosen the V112-3.45 MW turbine for Sanquhar Community Wind Farm. The V112-3.45 MW delivers incredible levels of production and is extremely well suited to sites like Sanquhar”.
