EIB debt sought for Finnish wind park

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering financing the 261 MW Lestijärvi wind farm project in Finland.

The financing details has not been disclosed.

The project includes eighty seven 3 MW wind turbines. Once completed the 87 wind turbines will produce about 770 GWh of electricity per year.

The project area covers a region of about 8,000 hectares, which is mainly composed of land leased from private landowners. The area is optimum for wind turbine construction, because the wind conditions are very similar to those found on the coast.

In September 2013 YIT, which will be responsible for implementing the wind farm, acquired the rights for the project from Lestijärven Tuulivoima Oy. At that time the Managing Director of Lestijärven Tuulivoima Oy, Aki Simunaniemi, stated:

"I am delighted that the project will continue its development with Finland's largest builder, who already have experience in constructing wind farms. YIT will continue to develop the project, based on the earlier made plans and Lestijärven Tuulivoima Oy remains heavily involved in this."
