Indonesia announces marine energy strategy

According to sources, Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said announced last week the country's plans to develop marine energy projects.

Sudirman said that the use of waves and currents to generate power will be part of the country's effort to encourage the use of renewable energy.

The government is currently conducting a study to find out the potential to develop marine energy in the country. According to sources, Indonesia would likely launch a marine current power pilot project this year.

This strategy is part of the efforts of the Indonesian government to reach a target of 23% of renewables in the country’s energy mix by 2025.
