Jamaica's RfP for 37 MW of renewables attracts 10 bids - report

According to sources, a total of 10 bidders has responded to the request for proposals (RFP) launched by Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) for 37 MW of renewable energy capacity.

Under the terms of the RFP, interested parties had to submit their proposals on or before January 27, 2016. The projects could include wind and solar plants, waste to energy facilities and other green energy projects.

The companies that have submitted proposals are, among others, the following:

  • Wigton WindFarm Ltd with a 37-MW wind project. The total project investment is estimated at US$61 million
  • Eight Rivers Energy Co with a 37-MW solar project. The total project investment is estimated at US$48.7 million 
  • Jamaica Energy Partners with a 37-MW solar project. The total project investment is estimated at US$77.14 million
  • Green Waste with a 24.7-MW waste-to-energy plant. The total project investment is estimated at US$110 million
  • Bio Energy with a 0-MW biomass power plant . The total project investment is estimated at US$93.8 million

The last two bidders could be disqualified due to the fact that they have not submitted a security deposit.
