Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed Lizel Oberholzer as a director in its Cape Town practice. Lizel will join the practice in August 2014.

Lizel is a leading oil & gas lawyer who focuses on the upstream and midstream sectors. Her considerable energy, resources and utilities regulatory law and project experience complements the practice's existing expertise in these sectors in Africa.

Lizel joins one of the largest energy legal practices in the world with more than 850 lawyers in every major energy market.

Simon Currie, global head of energy at Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

We have a leading global oil and gas practice, and the arrival of Lizel into the team will further strengthen our offering to our global clients. We strongly support the growth of Cape Town as a hub for the oil and gas industry in Africa.

Matt Ash, head of energy at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa, added:

We are delighted to have Lizel join our team. Her appointment continues the growth of Norton Rose Fulbright’s strong regional and global energy and natural resources practice, particularly in the oil and gas sector. Lizel’s deep understanding of the African market, together with her outstanding reputation will be a great asset to our practice.

Lizel Oberholzer stated:

Norton Rose Fulbright, and its energy practice, in particular, has an excellent reputation with a truly global presence, making this an exciting new chapter in my career.

The transactions in the oil & gas sector in Africa are fast-paced and dynamic so I’m looking forward to working with the existing team to support our trail blazing clients as they develop and deliver innovative and world changing energy and resources solutions across the continent.
