Oman launches tender for two IPP projects

The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) has issued a tender process through the launch of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) to develop two new Independent Power Projects (IPPs).

The project will add new power capacity of approximately 2600MW to the Main Interconnected System (MIS) of Oman which is most likely to be located across two sites.

The RFQ is formally available for purchase from the offices of OPWP effective from 15 June 2014to 30 June 2014. Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before 3 August 2014.

In early June we published that French gas and power utility GDF Suez had sold 10% of its 45% stake in Sohar Power Company SAOG, a Oman-based Sohar Power Company, to an investment holding company of Mena Infrastructure Fund LP. Sohar Power Company is the owner of Sohar 1, a 585MW power generation and 150,000 cubic metre/day seawater desalination plant in the Sohar Industrial Port area of the Sultanate of Oman.
