Ontario’s IESO announces winners for 454 MW of renewable capacity

Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has awarded more than 454 MW of large solar, wind and hydro projects in the LRP I RFP process.

A total of 16 contracts were offered to SkyPowerBluEarth RewewablesEDF EN CanadaInvenergyRenewable Energy Systems Canada, BoralexSunEdison and others.

Five of the contracts include wind energy projects, totaling 299.5 MW, with a weighted average price of $0.0859/kWh (price range of $0.0645 to $0.1055/kWh). A total of seven contracts comprise solar energy farms, totaling 139.885 MW, with a weighted average price of $0.1567/kWh (price range of $0.1415 to $0.1785/kWh). The remaining four contracts belong to the hydropower sector, totaling 15.5 MW, with a weighted average price of $0.1759/kWh (price range of $0.1735 to $0.1770/kWh).

Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES) and Boralex will develop the 50 MW Otter Creek Wind Farm Project, which has been awarded under the LRP I RFP process. The project is situated on private lands in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and it is targeted to reach commercial operation by the end of 2019.

Now the IESO invites feedback from all stakeholders, municipalities and Aboriginal communities to help prepare for the launch of the second Large Renewable Procurement (LRP II) process. The goal of this initiative is to ensure that any learnings and opportunities for improvement derived from the first LRP process (LRP I) are considered for the planned LRP II.
