Planning progresses for Extremadura 500 MW solar facility

The government of the autonomous Spanish community of Extremadura has completed environmental and administrative studies on the 500 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project located in the municipality of Usagre, in the southwest of Spain.

The project involves de development of a solar plant, a new substation and a 12 km long 400 KV transmission line. The company in charge of the project is Spanish-based Proyecto Núñez de Balboa S.L.

The new facilities will be located in the municipalities of Usagre, Hinojosa del Valle and Bienvenida, in the Extremaduran province of Badajoz, in the southwest of Spain.

Despite the lack of big PV solar projects outside of the tariff scheme (halted in January 2012) for solar PV in Spain, there are currently several key projects in planning. Some of them will be located in the Extremadura and Murcia regions.
