Solairedirect to acquire PV projects in Chile and develop US solar project

Solairedirect SA has acquired 72 MW of solar power capacity in Atacama and has announced a partnership with sPower for a 26.5 MW solar project in Madera County, California.

Solairedirect has acquired the Denersol and Canto del Agua solar projects in the northern region of Atacama in Chile with a total capacity of 72 MW. The two projects are equipped with tracker powered systems from developer Abantia Sun Energy. The new facilities will be designed and built by Solairedirect Chile. Construction works are expected to start in late 2015.

This is Solairedirect’s third project in Chile after the Andacollo project built in 2013 with a pioneering merchant PPA and the Los Loros project, where construction is about to start in the coming weeks having secured bank financing.

Separately, Solairedirect has started collaborating with sPower to develop and build solar photovoltaic projects in the United States. The first joint initiative is the purchase by Solairedirect and equity financing by sPower of the Adera project, a 26.5 MW project located in Madera County in California.

The utility-scale project will be designed and built by Solairedirect USA Inc. In addition, Adera Solar LLC has signed a 20-year-power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern California Edison (SCE). Construction is scheduled to start during the second quarter of 2015, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Adera is the first solar park to be built by Solairedirect in the United States since the foundation of Solairedirect USA Inc. in April 2014.
