Soriana and Gemex announce two new wind farms in Mexico

Organizacion Soriana SAB de CV, a supermarket chain, and Gemex will develop two 49.5 MW wind parks in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The supermarket chain has plans to use the electricity from the wind farms to power its stores. The company aims to source 100% of its electricity needs from renewables.

Each wind farm will be made up of 15 wind turbines. The total project investment is estimated at US$130 million each (total US$260 million). The North American Development Bank will provide US$80 million of project financing and the remaining funds will be provided by private funds and equity from Gemex.

We have recently reported that Abengoa has begun construction of the first two stages of the Tres Mesas wind farm in the state of Tamaulipas. The wind farm consists of 45 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 148.5 MW and it is being developed by Oak Creek Energy Systems, Inc.
