Wpd and Grenergy submit plan for renewable projects in Chile

Chile's environmental authorities have announced that wpd Chile SpA has presented a plan for the construction of a 58.8 MW wind farm in the Biobio region and that they have accepted a proposal of Spain's Grenergy Renovables SA for a 20 MW photovoltaic (PV) project in the Santiago Metropolitan region.

The project proposed by wpd is worth about US$200 million and would be located in Los Angeles, Biobio region. The new wind farm, Lomas de Duqueco, will have 14 turbines of 4.2 MW each and will operate as part of the main grid system, SIC. The project contemplates 12 months for construction in 2018.

The project proposed by Grenergy Renovables is worth US$32 million. Grenergy, acting through its subsidiary GR Peumo SpA, proposed to install the plant next to distribution lines in the municipality of Alhue within a six-month period starting April 2017.

Grenergy has recently announced the completion of its first, 3-MW solar plant in Chile and the construction of a similar one, both in the region of Coquimbo.

The company manages more than a 1GW of PV and wind energy in Chile, Mexico and Peru.
